The Hiveis Carbon Neutral
This means we did not add to global warming in the year of certification as we saved the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions as we produced.
This has been independently validated by Go Climate Positive. About us The Hive is a not-for-private profit organisation with social objectives. Our aim is to stimulate, encourage and support local enterprise, helping to create a healthy local economy. Our experienced team of business counsellors provide impartial and confidential support to North Somerset businesses who are just starting out or who need help and support to grow. |
Our target is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. We will do this by reducing our emissions by at least 90% and offsetting the remainder through removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
To drive towards this target we aim to reduce emissions across our operations and value chain by at least 21% over the next 5 years.
We have committed to reducing emissions over the next year by:
1. Run Supplier Engagement project
2. Run tenant engagement project targeting energy savings in the office
3. Investigate alternatives to our gas heat pumps
4. Consider fitting electricity monitor to identify wasted energy use
5. Consider fitting a flow regulator in the shower heads
6. Save on photocopier emissions by moving to paperless CRM
Our Net Emissions is the total amount of greenhouse gases we produced in the year once the amount we saved has been taken into account.

We have provided improved cookstoves in East AfricaWe have invested in a carefully selected range of offsetting projects, like this one that provides improved cookstoves in East Africa. Not only do these reduce emissions through using up to 80% less wood, but they also help reduce childhood scalds/burns and create jobs in the local economy, most of which are taken by women. All of our projects have been certified to reduce carbon emissions and have strong additional benefits including health benefits, saving low-income families money and reducing deforestation. All projects in this portfolio are Gold Standard Certified.
| We have provided Carbon Literacy trainingWe we have completed carbon literacy training for 80% of our staff and 60% have done the carbon literacy train the trainer workshops. We are planning to provide carbon literacy training to our tenants and use this as a springboard for an engagement project aimed at reducing energy use in the office. Our employees that work from home have also switched to green energy. |
‘Go Climate Positive’ is a membership programme that makes it easy for businesses to calculate, reduce and offset their carbon emissions. It is designed to adhere to the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Corporate Value Chain Standard.
