Whatley Manor are reducing

our Carbon Footprint

This means we are committed to calculating and reducing our impact on climate change  year on year in line with the global goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

This has been independently validated by "Go Climate Positive".

About us

Whatley Manor is a grown-up getaway in the heart of the Cotswolds. Set in 12 acres of gardens with 26 distinctly different areas. Come on in and discover a whole new relaxed and very enjoyable experience.

In early 2019 Whatley’s owners committed to embark on a journey that would transform how the hotel operates, creating a business that delivered a luxury guest experience whilst reducing its impact on the planet. Driven by General Manager Sue Williams, since the beginning the journey has become a passion for the whole team working towards an ambitious goal Scope 1 & 2 Net Zero by 2028.

Targets

We are committed to:

  • Achieve Net Zero emissions for our energy use by 2028 (reducing emissions by 90% compared with 2019)
  • Achieve Net Zero emissions for our Supply Chain by 2035 (reducing emissions by 90% compared with 2019)
  • 80% of Suppliers (by emissions) committed to Net Zero and with an active carbon reduction plan by 2028
  • Improve data quality by tracking purchases and food waste monthly from 2022

Actions

We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by:

  1. Switching to biogas
  2. B. Save electricity by switching off plugs whenever possible
  3. Replace all towels and robes with Ecoknit technology, reducing energy consumption by 40% and saving 15% of water.

Activities

We are helping our suppliers to get to Net Zero

We have started to work with our suppliers to help them understand their contribution to our carbon footprint and encourage them to commit to reducing their emissions.

We aim to have 80% of our suppliers (by emissions) committed to Net Zero and with an active carbon reduction plan by 2028.

We are reducing our food waste

Food waste is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

We have committed to start tracking, with the aim to understand how to reduce, our food waste in detail from 2022 onwards.

‘Go Climate Positive’ is a membership programme that makes it easy for businesses to calculate, reduce and offset their carbon emissions. It is designed to adhere to the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Corporate Value Chain Standard.
